What is an Advocate?
You've probably heard the word advocacy before. It's defined as, "The act of pleading for or supporting; work of advocating; intercession." Essentially, advocacy means to endeaveor on behalf of someone else, or for a cause.
So what's the position of an Advocate inside the walls of First Choice PRC? You may have guessed it, but it's someone who is working on behalf of our clients for the cause of life. It's someone who is constantly in their corner helping them lean into a better future for themselves and their baby. This person prays for, helps to educate, and cares for their client. They serve them to the best of their ability, pouring love out like Jesus on someone who needs to feel His compassion, mercy, and grace,
Advocates are the heart and soul of First Choice PRC. They are volunteer positions filled by those who love Jesus and people. Advocates are trained by staff to recognize and honor the whole person and provide the highest standard of care. The training process is thorough and prepares advocates to serve, and above all listen, to all types of people in all different situations.
An advocate may get the privelege of providing a pregnancy test and pregnancy options to a one time client, or spend an entire pregnancy into the first year of the baby's life with new a mom. In some cases you'll help a woman unpack mountains of trauma, and in others you'll introduce them to Jesus. Advocates have the opportunity to do it all!
It goes without saying this position is not for all volunteers. Advocates volunteer during business hours and are asked to handle with great care some of the hardest of life's stories. Many clients have been affected by great trauma and may have also inflicted great trauma to others. Some stories end in abortion, others in addiction, jail, or foster care. But many, many, many stories are filled with couples who choose life, marriage, and Jesus.
Advocacy is hard, rewarding, and extremely neccessary to fullfill the mission and ministry of First Choice PRC. If this volunteer opportunity tugs at your heart strings, please call 715-345-0280 to discuss advocacy with a center director. Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, and Marshfield all need willing hands to continue serving our many, many clients.
