Revival

I’ve been chewing hard on the details of the last few weeks as law makers are pushing for the least restrictive abortion access amendments America has ever seen. Abortion on demand, access over safety, women and men with lives that will never be the same. I spend nights tossing and turning dreaming of babies and doctors and broken hearts, and I’ve spent days turning over the questions: “What can we do?” “What can THEY do?” “WHY ISN’T ANYONE DOING ANYTHING?!” And I get the quietest reminder from the Holy Spirit: “Revival starts in YOUR heart.” Silence. My angry, blaming, frustrated thoughts are quieted. Revival, a revolution, starts with each of us individually. It’s the quiet voice that tells you to extend kindness to the single mom, to bless her and rally around her. It’s the tug in your heart to speak a word of encouragement to someone who looks like they’re bearing the weight of the world on their shoulders. It’s listening to listen to another’s story without listening to respond, cast judgement, or even guidance. It’s giving your time, even though you seem to have so little, to causes that matter to you. And when you can’t give time, you give money to fund the organizations that love the way you can’t. It’s standing boldly, but also in meekness, for what matters to you and loving in the face of being cursed, beaten down, or spit on. The lives of babies matter. Yes, they matter so much. But so do the women and men who find themselves facing what may be the hardest decision of their lives. But love makes the difference! I know this because I see it often in the offices at First Choice. A whole lot of love and support couples didn’t think they deserve or had goes a long way. But it starts by choosing to love more than just you and your comfortable life. Revival starts with us. It starts with me. It starts with you.
