Is Advocacy for You?
It's official. First Choice PRC for the first time has had to wait list clients in Wisconsin Rapids who are interested in participating in HOPE classes. What does this mean? Clients who have chosen to have their babies will need to wait for the opportunity to begin taking classes or make appointments in Stevens Point. This could mean they are missing out on precious moments for connection, hope, and empowering education!
The solution? More advocates! More advocates! More advocates!
Advocates are volunteers who are willing to put forth their time to serve by educating, supporting, and empowering clients at First Choice PRC. They are spiritually mature, teachable, and excellent listeners. They are responsible, reliable, and trustworthy. Advocates are the heart and soul of the ministry!
Though it is ideal for advocates to pursue deeper levels of training over the course of longer time periods to help clients who come into the center in crisis, we are particularly looking for advocates who are interested in training to teach HOPE classes. This training could be as quick as a couple of hours a day for a week before they are able to begin taking HOPE clients!
And once new volunteers are trained, they will ideally meet weekly with clients to watch a lesson and discuss how the lesson can apply to their pregnancy, parenting, and lifestyles. Through these weekly visits, often volunteers make deep connections with their clients adding another layer of support as they walk through their parenting journey. It's a highly rewarding volunteer position.
Cynthia P., a Wisconsin Rapids advocate says, "It's rewarding seeing them get the victory and the joy they experience. It's an honor to be an advocate, and an honor to walk these walks with them - the hardships, the joys, their dreams, their lives."
If this opportunity sounds like something you're interested in, don't hesitate! We need you! Call 715-345-0280 to discuss advocacy or stop into a center to learn more.
